Ubuntu 9.10 is not out long ago that alpha 1 of the next version of the system is already there. Well, first alpha users wary like the plague, as synonymous with a consequent instability. However, this arrival is beneficial because it allows to follow the path taken by the Linux distribution.
For now, Ubuntu 10.04 alpha 1 is the kernel 2.6.32, but Lucid Lynx essentially proposes two major changes:
- Removing the HAL (Hardware Abstraction Layer) for quicker boot system and a payback period longer relevant after the release of a standby.
- Using KDE 4.4 Beta 1
It starts so gently, but we must remember that Ubuntu will be 10.04 LTS version for Long Term Support. This means that the client will be supported milled for three years, while for the server will support five years. The development process changes mainly on three points:
1- Synchronizing with Debian packages is more conservative and uses the industry "testing" instead of the branch "unstable"
2- The stabilization begins very early in voluntarily limiting the number of new features
3- Structural changes are limited as far as possible
Users who still want to test this alpha 1 can be downloaded from the official site. However, we would highly advise you to use a virtualization solution such as VirtualBox.
