Bing has it become mandatory on Verizon BlackBerry?
Microsoft has high hopes for Bing, its search engine. If the agreement with Yahoo is expected to boost its market share, it will still deal with Google and its domination of the research sector. One method is to create partnerships with manufacturers, and many testimonies suggest that the publisher has achieved with Verizon.
The first messages were encountered on the CrackBerry forums site before others arrived on the official forums of Verizon. Users of BlackBerry smartphones have noticed that the search default was set to Bing, irrespective of the previous choice. And not just the default engine had been modified, but it was not possible to change this setting, the only way to check Google for example is then to launch the browser to display the site engine.
The situation is unclear, since not only all the evidence does not match, but the echoes from the companies concerned are not necessarily consistent. Thus, where an increasing number of users see the change of control, others have seen no change. The hypothesis was advanced that the phone had to restart at least once for the change to take place, making sure to address the current situation suits them very well and their motivation will not be restarted.
Verizon Communications side, the returns are different. According to a user, an official reportedly said that an agreement had been reached between RIM (the company that designs and manufactures the BlackBerry) and Microsoft. But another witness says Verizon has partnered with Microsoft and that Bing is becoming the search engine the default on models 9530, 9550 and prior to the 9630.
The real problem is not that Verizon makes an agreement with Microsoft, such cases are typical example of the market for computer OEM side. The real worry comes from the method used since users have clearly not been consulted. And if change a setting without seeking "permission" is already a problem, blocking the possibility of change is yet another which adds to the confusion of the situation
